Equestrian Championships among both professional and volunteer mounted
officers. Before retiring with her Quarter Horse Morgan, Dillon, she
had earned the coveted Gold Medal at the NYS Police Equestrian Games 4
years in a row. Joann also has placed in the top 10 with multiple
horses in every mounted police competition entered in her 12 years of
service. Her mounted police competitions led her to winnings in Canada,
Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland, and New York. See the

Competition History link. She is the only volunteer officer to ever win the prestigious Brigadier Memorial Champion Award.
Joann is National Mounted Police and Toronto Police Services Certified,
as well as completed training certifications from Wyoming County
Sheriff’s Mounted Unit, Seneca County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit,
Livingston County Mounted Unit, Chautauqua County Mounted, and
Massasauga Search and Rescue.
She and her Percheron Quarter Horse cross, Shamrock, were honored to
represent New York Police Horse Training in the filming of the French
television 50-minute documentary “New York City Mounted Police”
that aired in France on Equidia cable TV in 2012. Joann enjoys
sharing her extensive professional experience and proven training
techniques to help others form their special partnership, communication
and trust with their horse!

complex obstacles to exemplify the ultimate trust that can be achieved.

Police Services Training Certified. Activities included
Equitation, Troop Training in formation riding along the beach, Crowd
Control, Skill at Arms, Obstacle and Sensory training, and Patrol Time
with strategies for the streets, including a
ride down Yonge Street.
Mounted Training Group, Mounted Police Certification, graduated with
distinction. This course included training in equitation &
formation riding, Search & Rescue, vehicle extrication, horse
psychology, crowd control & psychology, arrest techniques,
street sensory & obstacle training, street survival techniques,
night operations, and selection of the police horse.
